What can I do if Servus Professional tablets aren’t syncing together? https://www.servus-app.com/2012/05/29/what-can-i-do-if-servus-professional-tablets-arent-syncing-together/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=what-can-i-do-if-servus-professional-tablets-arent-syncing-together https://www.servus-app.com/2012/05/29/what-can-i-do-if-servus-professional-tablets-arent-syncing-together/#comments Tue, 29 May 2012 21:12:32 +0000 dan https://www.servus-app.com/?p=1395 Servus Professional is designed to monitor available tablets on the Wi-Fi network and keep data synchronized across them. There can be several causes for a Servus Professional tablet to stop communicating with other tablets on the network.

Make sure all tablets are on the same network

Tap the clock at the bottom-right corner of the screen and inspect the network name (circled in red) as shown in the screenshot below.

This name should be the same across all tablets running Servus. If one tablet’s network name is different, switching it back to your Servus network should get it working properly again.

Force a reset of the Wi-Fi connection

If tablet(s) still can’t communicate with each other, they may be having an issue communicating with the wireless router. You can force tablets to re-establish their connection to the wireless router by turning on the tablet’s “airplane mode” for a few seconds and then turning it off.

1. Tap the clock in the bottom-right corner of the screen as shown below:

2. Tap the second clock that appears as shown below:

3. Tap the “Off” button next to “Airplane Mode” as shown below:

4. The “Off” should change to “On” and you should see a Servus “Wi-Fi connection lost” dialog appear as shown below.

5. After a few seconds, tap the “On” button next to “Airplane Mode”. It should read “Off” and after 10-20 seconds, the Servus “Wi-Fi connection lost” dialog should disappear.

Repeat this process for each tablet that is not communicating properly. This will not cause any data loss and should get the tablet(s) synced up and communicating again.

Reboot the tablets

If all else fails, you should reboot the tablet(s) that are having issues and re-run the Servus application.

How do I set up my Airport Extreme for Servus? https://www.servus-app.com/2011/12/12/how-do-i-set-up-my-airport-extreme-for-servus/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-do-i-set-up-my-airport-extreme-for-servus https://www.servus-app.com/2011/12/12/how-do-i-set-up-my-airport-extreme-for-servus/#comments Mon, 12 Dec 2011 18:14:35 +0000 dan http://www.servus-app.com/?p=1257 Overview

We’ve tested wireless routers from most major vendors (Cisco/Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, etc.) and the most reliable one we’ve found is Apple’s Airport Extreme. It’s a bit more expensive than its competition, but the adage of “you get what you pay for” appears to be in effect here.

These are not intended to be comprehensive instructions for setting up the Airport Extreme hardware itself. There is excellent documentation on Apple’s site and the Airport Extreme Manual is very thorough. This article will simply run through how we recommend configuring an Airport Extreme for use by the Servus system.

Configuration

1. Run the Airport Utility
Once you have your Airport Extreme plugged in, you will need to run the Airport Utility on your Mac or Windows PC. The application will appear as shown below:

Notice the “Base Station b03121″ in the left column — that is the out-of-the-box, unconfigured base station. If the utility isn’t able to find a base station, make sure your wireless is turned on and click the “Rescan” button.

Make sure your base station is highlighted in the left column (by clicking on it) and click the “Manual Setup” button as shown in the screenshot above.

2. Setting Base Station options
The screen should look as follows:

Click the “Base Station” tab as shown above. You will then see the following:

Change all settings to match the screenshot above. You can set the password to anything you want. Note that this is the password for administering the router and not for accessing the wireless network. When finished, click the “Wireless” tab as shown above.

3. Setting Wireless options
You should see the following:

Again, fill out the information as shown in the screenshot above. The password can be anything you want. Note that this is the password that will be entered on the Servus devices to access the network. We recommend making this different than the password set in step 2.

When finished, click the “Wireless Network Options…” button as show above. A box will appear as show below:

Make sure the “Create a closed network” is checked as shown above. This will prevent the Servus network from being advertised and makes it even more secure. When finished, click the “Done” button.

4. Configuring DHCP
Click the “Internet” toolbar item (1) and then the “DHCP” tab (2) as show below:

Change the “DHCP Beginning Address” to “192.168″ as shown above. The rest of the items should automatically change to match the screenshot. Then click the “Update” button in the bottom-right. This will cause the Airport Extreme to reboot.

When the reboot is complete, your wireless network will be ready for use by Servus.

5. Turning off warnings (optional)
Since your Airport Extreme isn’t on the Internet, a yellow LED on the front of the device will continuously blink indicating a warning. This can be turned off if it is bothersome.

Run the Airport Utility and it should look as follows:

Note: If the utility can’t find your Airport Extreme, it may be because you have not joined the Servus network. Make sure the wireless is activated on your Mac/PC and that it has joined the Servus network. Then click the “Rescan” button.

Make sure the “Servus” item is highlighted in the left column and then click the yellow button as shown in the screenshot above. The screen will change as shown below:

Click the checkboxes for all three items and then click the “Update” button as shown above. After a few seconds, the LED on the front of the Airport Extreme will glow a steady green.

How do I connect my pager system to Servus? https://www.servus-app.com/2011/11/16/how-do-i-connect-my-pager-system-to-servus/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-do-i-connect-my-pager-system-to-servus https://www.servus-app.com/2011/11/16/how-do-i-connect-my-pager-system-to-servus/#comments Wed, 16 Nov 2011 18:32:04 +0000 dan http://www.servus-app.com/?p=1191 Overview

Servus can communicate with external pager systems using the PagerLink device. The two steps necessary are connecting the PagerLink hardware and configuring the Servus software with the specifics of your pager system.

Connecting PagerLink

Step A: PagerLink to tablet

Connect one (and only one) tablet to the PagerLink device using the USB cable that was provided with your tablet. Note that this will be the same as the charging and/or sync cable depending on your tablet model.

Step B: PagerLink to paging system

Connect the PagerLink device to your pager system controller using the serial cable included with PagerLink. If you chose not to order a cable when you purchased your PagerLink device, you will need to supply your own as indicated below:

  • HME GuestCall®: DB-9 male to DB-9 male null modem.
  • JTECH Guest Alert: DB-9 male to DB-9 male null modem.
  • Microframe Vibrating Pager & Visual-Pager® (with Xlite controller): DB-9 male to DB-25 female straight-through.

Once all cables are correctly connected, you can move onto the next step.

Configuring Servus

Servus must be configured with the specifics of your pager system. This is done in the Servus PagerLink preferences.

1. From within the running Servus application, tap the menu button in the upper-right corner (1) then tap the “Preferences” item (2) that appears as shown below:

2. Tap the “PagerLink” item in the left column (1) then tap the “Paging System” item that appears in the right column (2) as shown below:

3. A dialog appears with a list of all supported pager systems as shown below. Tap the appropriate pager system:

4. The default message sent to alphanumeric pagers is “Your table is ready.” If you wish to customize this message, tap the “Pager Message” item:

5. You can then enter your custom message as shown below. The party name is always prepended to the message with a dash. For example: “John-Your table is ready.”

The next steps will be specific to the pager system you selected in step 3 above: HME GuestCall®, JTECH GuestAlert, Microframe Vibrating Pager or Microframe Visual-Pager®.

HME GuestCall®

If you are using an HME GuestCall® system, you will need to enter the Base ID provided to you by HME. This ID is displayed on the LCD screen of the GuestCall® controller when it is first turned on.

1. Tap the “HME GuestCall® Settings” item as shown below:

2. Tap the “Base ID” item that appears as shown below:

3. Enter your Base ID into the dialog that appears and then tap the “OK” button as shown below:

4a. The “Pager Type” preference is used to indicate the type of pagers you use with your paging system. The default is “Numeric/Vibrating” which includes pagers without displays and with numeric-only displays. If your pagers have an alphanumeric display and you wish to send a text message when paging guests, change the pager type by tapping the “Pager Type” item as shown below:

4b. Then tap the appropriate pager type as shown below. The message sent to alphanumeric pagers is the one set in step 4 of the “Configuring Servus” section above.

5a. The pager baud rate defaults to 1200. This should be fine for most installations. If, however, you are instructed by HME to change it, you can do so by tapping the “Baud Rate” item as shown below.

5b. Then tap the appropriate baud rate as shown below:

JTECH GuestAlert

If you are using a JTECH GuestAlert system, you will need to enter the CAP Code provided to you by JTECH.

1. Tap the “JTECH GuestAlert Settings” item as shown below.

2. Tap the “CAP Code” item that appears as shown below.

3. Enter your CAP Code into the dialog that appears and then tap the “OK” button as shown below.

Microframe Vibrating Pager

The Microframe Vibrating Pager system has three configurable settings, the latter two of which will be provided to you by Microframe Corporation:

  • Alert Mode (default is Flash & Vibrate)
  • Base Number (default is 500,000)
  • Baud Rate (default is 1,200)

Note: If your values match the defaults above, there is nothing to configure and you can skip to the Conclusion section at the bottom of the page. If you do need to change any of the above, follow the below steps.

1. Tap the “Microframe Vibrating Pager Settings” item as shown below.

2a. If you need to change the Alert Mode, tap the “Alert Mode” item as shown below.

3a. If you need to change the Base Number, tap the “Base Number” item as shown below.

3b. Enter the Base Number into the dialog that appears and tap the “OK” button as shown below.

4a. If you need to change the Baud Rate, tap the “Baud Rate” item as shown below.

4b. Tap the Baud Rate in the dialog that appears as shown below.

Microframe Visual-Pager®

The Microframe Visual-Pager® system has four configurable settings, the latter three of which will be provided to you by Microframe Corporation:

  • Auto Delete Time (default is 2 minutes)
  • Frame Pager ID (default is 1,500)
  • Base Number (default is 500,000)
  • Baud Rate (default is 1,200)

Note: If your values match the defaults, there is nothing to configure and you can skip to the Conclusion section at the bottom of the page. If you need to change any of the above, follow the below steps.

1. Tap the “Microframe Visual-Pager® Settings” item as shown below.

2a. If you need to change the Auto Delete Time, tap the “Auto Delete Time” item as shown below.

2b. Enter the desired Auto Delete Time (in minutes) into the dialog that appears and then tap the “OK” button as shown below. Note: all your Microframe displays must be powered on to receive the change and it only works on Model 3620 & 3430 displays.

3a. If you need to change the Frame Pager ID, tap the “Frame Pager ID” item as shown below.

3b. Enter your Frame Pager ID into the dialog that appears and then tap the “OK” button as shown below.

4a. If you need to change the Base Number, tap the “Base Number” item as shown below.

4b. Enter your Base Number into the dialog that appears and then tap the “OK” button as shown below.

5a. If you need to change the Baud Rate, tap the “Baud Rate” item as shown below.

5b. Tap the Baud Rate in the dialog that appears as shown below.

Conclusion

Tap the “Back” button in the bottom-left corner of the screen until you are returned to the main Servus application. Your device is now configured to automatically send guest pages to your pager system when the PagerLink device is connected.

How do I stop Servus from starting automatically when the tablet is turned on? https://www.servus-app.com/2011/09/22/how-do-i-stop-servus-from-starting-automatically-when-the-tablet-is-turned-on-2/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=how-do-i-stop-servus-from-starting-automatically-when-the-tablet-is-turned-on-2 https://www.servus-app.com/2011/09/22/how-do-i-stop-servus-from-starting-automatically-when-the-tablet-is-turned-on-2/#comments Thu, 22 Sep 2011 18:23:16 +0000 dan http://www.servus-app.com/?p=892 Overview

If Servus is configured to start automatically when the tablet is powered on, you will not be able to quit Servus and return to the launcher screen without disabling the Servus auto-start. You can easily determine this by tapping the home button while Servus is running. If nothing happens and Servus continues running, then it is set to auto-start. The following procedures will allow you to disable auto-start:

Procedures

1. While Servus is running, tap the clock in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen as shown circled in red below:

2. A dialog will appear in the bottom-right corner as shown below. Tap anywhere in the area within the red circle as shown.

3. The dialog will grow larger and a “Settings” button will appear at the bottom (shown in red below). Tap on it.

4. The Settings dialog will now appear. Tap the “Applications” button (1) in the left column and then tap the “Manage Applications” button (2) that appears in the right column as shown below.

5. A list of applications will appear in the right column. Find the Servus icon and tap on it as shown below. Note: Depending on how many applications you have on your tablet, you may need to scroll to find Servus.

6. The right column will now show information about Servus. Scroll down slightly (drag your finger upwards in the right column) to the “Launch by default” section. There you will see a button titled “Clear defaults” (shown circled in red below). Tap that button and it should disable (turn grey).

7. Tap the back button in the bottom-left corner repeatedly until Servus reappears. Servus will no longer start up b default and tapping the home button in the bottom-left corner will allow you to go to the launcher screen.

How do I make Servus startup automatically when the tablet is turned on? https://www.servus-app.com/2011/09/22/888/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=888 https://www.servus-app.com/2011/09/22/888/#comments Thu, 22 Sep 2011 17:37:28 +0000 dan http://www.servus-app.com/?p=888 Overview

Servus can be configured to launch by default when the tablet is powered on. This has the added benefit of preventing the home button from accidentally being hit and returning you to the launcher screen. There are two ways you can do this, both of which assume you have already successfully installed Servus.

Option 1: Tablet Powered On

If your tablet is already running, you should be looking at the launcher screen as shown below:

If you are not at the launcher screen, tap the back button repeatedly until you are.

Once at the launcher screen, tap the home button (circled in red above). The following dialog should appear:

Note: There is a bug in certain version of the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer hardware that prevents this dialog from appearing. What you will see instead is a darkened screen. A workaround for this problem is to rotate the tablet 90 degrees which will force the dialog to appear.

Make sure the “Use by default for this action” checkbox (circled in red) is checked as shown above. Then tap the “Servus” icon.

Servus should start and will automatically start the next time the tablet is rebooted.

Option 2: Tablet Powered Off

If your tablet isn’t running, power it on. When it has completed starting up, the following dialog should appear:

Note: There is a bug in certain version of the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer hardware that prevents this dialog from appearing. What you will see instead is a black screen.
